Colin Russell is the partner in charge of the Private Client Department in London. Although the department handles all private client work, he specialises in the fields of will drafting and estate planning, the creation of trusts, agricultural estates, offshore trusts and related tax advice, charity law and Court of Protection work. He also handles Inheritance Act and probate actions.

Colin acted for the executors of the estate of the late Richard Yorke QC in the widely reported test case (“re Yorke”). The case resulted in a practice direction by the Vice Chancellor to establish a fast track procedure for executors of deceased Lloyd’s names to obtain the court’s authority to distribute.

Colin has previously been a member of Council and the Executive Committee of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) with responsibility for setting up special interest groups and liaison with other societies. He was also Chairman of the London Central branch for a number of years.

Colin writes on tax and estate matters and is a contributor to Tolley’s “Administration of Estates” and “Trust Drafting & Precedents” as well as a contributor and joint consulting editor of Tolley’s “Finance and Law for the Elderly”. He has also been co-writer of the most recent edition of Ranking, Spicer & Pegler’s “Executorship Law, Trusts and Accounts”.

In his spare time, Colin sings and occasionally plays the organ and trains choirs. He also enjoys local history, genealogy and reading and collects anything that is collectible.
