European Commission plans reforms of intellectual property system- 23/06/2011
The European Commission has published plans for reforms to the EU intellectual property system, to boost creativity and innovation as well as to balance access to cultural content, for example, online music. It is proposed that customs agencies should take a greater role in enforcing intellectual property rights by tackling infringing goods. The Commission continues to push for a single patent protection system and a unified European patent court despite the significant hurdles that both of these proposals have faced. The Commission also proposes to modernise the trade mark system and streamline copyright licensing and revenue distribution.
